Sorry about the multiple posts, I just wanted to break things up. I've pulled these from waltz lists online, So You Think You Can Dance, and soundtracks I randomly remembered. Feel free to give thoughts, I'm cool with putting all of these on the masquerade playlist.

Yeah, not a lyrics video but this was the best quality I could find.
My intent was to choose songs specifically for dances we'd be learning at the dance panel. I think part of the problem was people chose songs they couldn't dance (dance= waltz, swing, whatever else was covered at the dance panel) to at the masquerade. I agree with Proz on being specific. People need to choose songs specifically with a waltz or swing pulse or again, whatever is going to be covered at the dance panel.
In addition, I think the masquerade playlist should have the same type of ballroom songs in a row to get people comfortable with dancing. For example, waltz song
waltz song
waltz song
swing song
swing song
etc.
I wouldn't mix it up too much with the order. HOWEVER, that is my opinion and I have no idea if this is a dancing no-no or something. I could be way off the mark with this suggestion. I just figured it might help keeping people on the dance floor.

When I think masquerade (especially with waltzing), these songs are what come to mind for me:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYeNNOPYElA
I could go on, but I'll leave at those for now ;)
edit: Some of those are not the best references, but if need be I can clarify any of those with appropriate composer/specific performance etc.

Lol, yep, I adore that movie, and the music is childishly elegant; especially the way it sounds as if it has been played on a toy piano for some pieces.

Feel free to keep posting suggestions!

Darthseb, how do we dance to those songs? I feel they don't have a detectable pulse for ballroom dances such as the waltz, rumba, swing, cha cha etc. They're awesome and invigorating covers, but I question how "danceable" they are.
And if we're allowed a lil country love song...

the top two songs u must have a for a good anime masq is the ending theme for neon genesis (Fly me to the Moon) and the theme for Howls Moving Castle
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlxraNmZFR4
This is perfect dancing classical music! Also zelda music would fit such as the ending theme or fairy songs.

I would really love it if we just kept the music classical and danceable like a real ball. None of this hip hope and pop crap like last year ><

Agreed. I wouldn't mind new age, country, classic, and some ballads during this dance.
As much as I love techno and dance club music, I wouldn't think it'd fit an event like this.

Not sure where you heard hip hop ...there was none at my dance. As for pop, I only chose songs that were slow (unless they were salsa, swing etc). Everything I chose was danceable and had a distinct beat for people to follow.
I choose the music myself and I can assure you it fits the themes. I know other masqs. do not do this and end up doing techno or some such...but not this one.

I think that this last one is good especially since it has the words, "And I don't want the world to see me." Cause everyone is wearing masks at the dance.

Fly Me to the Moon, specifically one of the versions used in Neon Genesis Evangelion. The one by Claire Littley is the most common and the one I put below.
It's me and my boyfriend's "song" and we'll probably be going as Shinji and Asuka for the masquerade, so it would mean a lot if this played.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1ruDaAthnU
Be Human by Scott Matthew (from Ghost in the Shell.) It's a ballad and a really touching song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDtLpCzKqkQ
Michi ~To You All~ by Aluto (from Naruto Shippuuden), because it's a pretty song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tRF3j1DBXo
Brothers by BEPA (from Fullmetal Alchemist.) It was originally a song in Russian (I think...), and there's an instrumental version and Vic Mignogna made an English version. I personally prefer the instrumental version but the original was all I could find.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ne4vClYKNg&feature=channel_video_title
The Light Before We Land by The Delgados (from Gunslinger Girl.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIfZZ1cQZss
Scarecrow by The Pillows (from Moonlight Mile.) I absolutely love this song but I don't know if it would appropriate for a masquerade.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fsoGIi-BmI
Sakura Kiss Piano Version or the Strings Version (from Ouran High School Host Club)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oV6cVVXCqQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CIpeYuIXHY
Feel Like a Girl by Lia (from School Rumble: Second Semester)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtlxsDSkewI&feature=watch_response_rev
Hinageshi no Oka by Yukawa Shione (from Speed Grapher.) Be careful because the "full version" people find of this song is actually a completely different version that's more fast paced from the one below.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLqkWo3IOaU
Packaged (Piano Version) by Miku Hatsune
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htN-Nen3RAU
Lullaby for You by Jyongri (from The World Ends With You.) Every TWEWY fan will love you forever if you play this song. There's equally good Japanese and English versions, but I put the English version below.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNg6_yrmiR4
Aaand I second pretty much any pretty song from Legend of Zelda.
Um here are a few ideas off the top of my head.
A 2-minute waltz by Malice Mizer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1ZUWUmR0D8
This one is more of a pop song, but has a good beat and is my ringtone. It was the opening to the beloved Paradise Kiss anime:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jS4sjctzTXw
Same as above, but it is the instrumental track in case you want to go with that over the one with vocals:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJLQIXoyiDw
This might not have the most danceable beat in the world, but it is one of the sweetest love songs and great for slow-dancing to:

I'm up for the anastasia song and a few of the slow songs I had no idea existed but heres what I really love and love to hear at a ball.... (its not just all slow dancing ya know! You have to live a little)
Of course I'm MAJORLY up for classical music too!
Boogie Woggie Bugle Boy
Andrew Sisters
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NQRl24stKk&feature=fvst
Yeah I know she seems a little hunched over and they dance kinda funny. But this is how it was done back then. :) I love every bit of it!
Ain't That A Kick In The Head
Dean Martin
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-Yk4gW-dIU
Yeah its not a moving video much but its just for the song. :)
Morning Grace
Princess Tutu
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bXUZ8Tzq4M&feature=related
Its a bit of a waltz, actually it is...anyways sorry for the fast paced video. This video is the only AMV with the full version so eh. :) Have fun listening to the music and ppl dance around like crazy ppl. :D
Sing Sing Sing
Benny Goodman (orchestra)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G8Oxxuhy3s
!JUMP TO 2:45! Yes in the beggining is Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy sang by three totally different women. So this just shows some dancing with also a semi good quality of the song itself.
Hellzapoppin
Slam Stewart & Slim Gaillard
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsxtGBMQGq4
!JUMP TO 2:30 for the actual song! By far the craziest dancing ever but its amazing! :) The whole thing is the song besides the cleaning pause, it starts off as a nice slow swing and then gets fast. :)
Rip It Up
Bill Haley and His Comets
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cG6n3Z7qwVs
Ok phew just one more. :) Sorry if your a hater of all this music so far... D:
But if you love this music then go for this last one too. :)
One Girl and Two Boys (Lol thats how they dance)
Kay Keyser (band) sung by Marylin Maxwell
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaK5OWztCz8&feature=related
There was a clearer clip but the audio was messed up so here you go~!
Thats my song choices. :)

Time to close the magical music thread!
I will be going through this thread and lsitening to every suggestion and seeing what I think works or doesn't.
While all suggestions are appreciated, we cannot and will not use all of them. However, this seems to be an event that will be continuing for awhile, so keep those suggestions around for next time if your suggestion(s) do not make it into the masq. playlist.
Thanks so much everyone!
See you at the masquerade!
