late night security?

Hey one of my friends who lives in San Antonio is a bit nervous about safety she says that the "downtown" area is a high crime area and that we don’t want to be there at night.
we are staying at the Marriott and wanted to attend the late night dances and things but she's worried about getting back to the hotel afterwards I told her it was fine because we would be in a group (of six or seven people) and it was literally right across the street but she's still nervous.
Is there somewhere I can get information about security and safety to calm her down a bit.
^-^; any information would be greatly appreciated and sorry if this is a repost or a stupid question I just couldn’t find anything on it >.<

My dad is a police officer who works for a school district. He occasionally works for HEB or Bill Millers downtown as side jobs. I have yet to hear anything happening downtown. If your in a group anyways you'll definitely be safe! Also there are always hotel security close by too, I don't know if San Japan hires local police though.

its a relatively safe area as long as you use common sense. Don't go exploring at night( you aren't indiana jones) , if walking around outside stay in well lit , well populated areas , that sort of thing, honestly you'll be fine, i walked around with my nine year old sister last con at 2:30 a.m. and had no issues. Just keep you wits about you and you won't have a problem.

That isn't true. High crime areas aren't far from downtown, but downtown is not among them.

My friend's girlfriend and I walked around the area at three in the morning and saw no less than 4 either car or motorbike officers patrolling the area. It's the safest I've ever felt, but it's always good to travel in groups and don't talk to strangers and all those safety things they beat into your head in school.

SJ does get SAPD officers every year which they will be in uniform. They will be on-duty 24 hours while SJ is happening. All Safety personnel wear bright color shirts too. Safety HQ will be on the 3rd floor of the hotel. If you ever feel unsafe, never hesitate to ask for assistance.

I have hired Off Duty SAPD Officers round the clock for both buildings as well as a Medical Team. Also my volunteers wearing the bright blue Safety shirts will be around 24 hours./DOC

I just moved into the area but work in the law enforcement field, during the weekend evenings, SAPD is on it's game especially around the downtown area! So don't fear you will see them on bikes, in patrol cars, and sometimes even on foot!

I have never felt unsafe in the downtown San Antonio area - and I've never felt unsafe at a con where Sven and his crew were running security. Like others have said, it's a brightly lit area and since it's near the riverwalk the police take security very seriously. The riverwalk is SA's tourist area and the cops don't want anything bad to happen to tourists, since tourism is a major industry in SA.
