Ani-Idol Rules & Info

Hiya!

The rules for Ani-Idol are now posted on the SJ website HERE.


There has been a few major rule changes. However, the changes will work in your favor!


This thread will be used for any questions, concerns, etc.

*** UPDATE ***


The top two winners from each division will have the option of performing during the Cosplay Half-Time show on Saturday night. Songs performed by the winners must be no longer than 3.5 minutes (hard cut off time) and they must provide their own music. If you choose to perform, you will be required to attend the cosplay contest as well as part of the cosplay rehearsal. Reserved seating will be arranged. Any additional information will be provided at the end of the final round.

I have a question about what songs are allowed. I recall last year, you mentioned that for Vocaloid songs, they should be from the Project Diva games or official CD releases. Does this still stand this year? I mostly ask this because a song I am interested in performing is quite obscure...

I went ahead and axed all Vocaloid for the first round completely. There are just soooo many songs it's a bit hard to keep track. This only really affects the auditions though.

Actually, my question was geared more towards the second and final rounds, as I would like to learn some songs for those rounds in case I actually make it to them. Guess I should have specified that...

I will allow any vocaloid songs as long as it fits the rest of the rules.

i have a question about song choices...
say you pick a vocaloid song by GUMI the second round. you advance to the finals, would u be able to pick another vocaloid song sung by, let's say, Luka?

Vocaloid is Vocaloid. I consider it from the same source, just different 'voices'. So no, you could only perform one Vocaloid song for the contest.

It had been decided to change one of our rules slightly. Please prepare accordingly.

General Rules:

8. Contestants will be required to bring your own music for the contest. Music must be on a flashdrive/USB drive. Please do not bring your IPod as your source of music as they will not be accepted.

 We no longer accept CDs due to computer compatibility.

This is due to the past few contests. CDs have slowed down the contest process, but has also caused problems for performers when it would freeze/act up. After A-Kon we decided it was just easier to stick with flashdrives. A Capella is also still an option.

I kinda wanna go to the Opening Ceremonies, so is it okay if I leave early?

You will be allowed to choose the time when you want to audition when you sign-up. Once your audition is finished, you're free to go. We post winners at our booth as well as text/call to let people know if they advanced.

Just in case...Vocaloid songs will not be permitted for auditions. Also, that is correct. They do not have to be from an official soundtrack.

Will wireless mics be available at all?

I have planned choreography for the songs I have in mind for the different rounds (providing I advance) and I was curious, as it would make movements a /lot/ easier.

I believe mics will be wireless, however we won't know until we arrive to the panel room.
