    Battle Of The Bands?

I've been talking with Jay on this idea and giving it a big push.

    Here's how I envision it:

It would be 3-4 bands, each with a 20 minutes set max (Local bands who've asked me to play at SJ)
All bands playing would get a 1-day comp badge.
To happen early Friday afternoon in Main Events.
An MC would be introducing the bands and note who got the best reaction from the crowd.
It would be on the bands to get people to attend which would help them up their chances of winning.
Winner gets to open that evening for our TBA bands.

    Thoughts?

Interesting. I bet it could be fun!
Would the MC be a guest or would that be an open position?

TBD. We'd probably ask a guest first if they'd want it.

To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't want this to happen UNLESS all of the bands participating were covering Japanese/anime songs. Otherwise, I mean, they can just go to The White Rabbit or something.

But yeah, if you can find bands and convince them to cover like, 3 or 4 Japanese/anime songs, if anything that might invite more people to come. I know I for one would enjoy the prospect of live Japanese music (but only if it was, you know, GOOD, unlike SOME San Antonio Japanese cover bands...)

Hey, video game covers have their place too. Id say anything nerd related should be a go.

I'm on Tota's side on this.

Heck, the main band for this year doesn't sing Japanese but is well-known on the con circuit and they can bring out crowds.

This is just a chance to give the handful of bands who've asked to play at SJ an opportunity. We only have 2-3 music slots a year so giving every band a slot isn't possible. Lets see if they can talk the talk when put out there. It'll be a variety of music.

We've been doing this for 4 years with bringing out all kinds of music acts. Lets give other bands a chance. While yes, they could play at White Rabbit, I think playing at SJ is a better setting for them.

SJ is only a better setting if their music is appropriate, and yes, I do agree with the comment of just having nerd-based bands in general play.

Like I said, I'm not opposed to this...unless they are playing just generic music that has nothing to do with why we gather.

Also who is said well-known con circuit band?

That would be the case. The bands selected would be appropriate to SJ and not just generic-rock band who you'd hear at White Rabbit.

I decided to do this because we only have about 3 music slots a year and 2 have been selected. I wanted a way for bands could 'battle' for the last one.

As when it comes to all guests, when I can talk about it then I'll let everyone know.
    (Still working on contracts).

Yah, presume the few on here who have a band to get a msg but it'll probably be late spring or early summer if we go forward with it.

I'm totally up for this idea. If anyone wants to get together and form a band (and possibly drink tea and eat cake while we're at it), i'd be happy to play as both a singer and a guitarist.

Well did talk a bit about this today.

I suggest each band submit a MP3, of a somewhat recent song. I myself would prefer something unreleased, but that's me.

As far as stage setup goes, I didn't get to throw the idea that I think it would be goodSJ could provide the amps and maybe a drum kit to play on, just to cut down on setup times and sound checks. It may not be do-able though. It may be a bit more fair to require all bands be responsible for their own gear too though.

I like this a lot. When the bands are selected, they'll be asked to submit an mp3 for the website.

Speaking of which, I have decided to take Enceladus to the San Japan instead of Guy De Vere. So please do not put up the demo i had Franklin send to you Proz. They are not from the same band.
