Ouran High Host Club Event (NEW THEME THIS YEAR!)

San-Japan is happy to bring back the Ouran High Host Club Event for a fifth year in a row. For those of you new to this type of event, here's a brief explanation.

    The Ouran Event

Ever watched or read the Ouran High Host Club series? Ever dreamed of being hosted and interacting with the fabulous members of the Host Club themselves? Now you can! Join us for an interactive, game filled, and laugh out loud event hosted by those lovely characters. Ask them questions, to dance, play a game with them, have a small chat. Also, watch the twins play sneaky little tricks on Tamaki. Kyoya making sure that the club's budget is being used 'properly.' See Hunny be his adorable little self. Tamaki trying to get his lovely 'daughter' into a pretty dress. And so much more!

When you step right into those doors, you'll be "Welcomed" by them all.

(Basically, we try to make it as if you've walked right into the anime/manga as much as possible and you'll be Hosted just like in the series.)

Our Ouran Event theme this year is...
    Steampunk!

    The Host Club Memebers

    Tamaki: MeWindyCharms
    Kyouya: Permafrost
The Twins, Hikaru and Kaoru: RedeadDie and TBA
    Mori: Konoha Jonin
    Hunny: Jackie
    Haruhi: Pika-Neko
    Renge: PandaHarte

    Time and Place

Sunday 1:30pm to 4:30pm in the Main Events (Texas Ballroom) in the Hyatt Hotel (Maybe due to change)

    Special Sign-ups for the Event

Every year for the Ouran event, we appear to draw a large crowd. For a few years now, our Ouran Event organizers and helpers have offered a ahead of event time sign-up for this event. That way, you have a confirmed spot to attend this event and get to choose your time to attend this event. What we just ask of you is to visit our Ouran Table Friday and Saturday at San-Japan in the Artist Alley and tell us which time will work for you. We'll give you a sticker we put on the back of your badge. Whatever sticker color that is, you look for the same color on our chart (We will have at our table and outside the actual event.) and it will tell you your time slot. You do no have to stand in line for a long time before your time to enter the event. Just come to the event at your specified time and you'll be fine. (It is suggested you come at least five to ten minutes ahead of your chosen hosting session time.)

THE EVENT AND EARLY SIGN-UPS IS FREE WITH A PURCHASE OF ANY SAN-JAPAN CON BADGE!

HOWEVER! If you are a no show for your time slot, we will offer the space up for one of the people in our Standby line.

    Standby Line

We do know that some people may not be able to make it to the sign up table Friday and Saturday, may have forgotten, or didn't know about the Ouran Event until the day of. This is when we offer the standby line outside our event. For those who didn't get to sign-up/get a sticker you can be in this line and for each hosting session that we have extra space for or if there are no shows for the sign-ups, you may get a chance to attend the event still. Luckily, last year all the standbys got to take part in the event. Although it's not a for certain that it'll happen again for San-Japan Mach 5, we'll do our best to get as many people even the standbys into the event. Again, there is no gurantee you'll be able to get it, but there is a chance.

    The Rules

There are a few rules that we feel are important to bring up for our event. We'll also go over these rules before each hosting session briefly.

One: It is lovely to see our guests cosplay as the Ouran High Host Club characters. We just ask if you refrain from acting in character while you're attending this event. It'll cause confusion amongst the actors and the other guests and such as Kyouya states, "One Tamaki is enough."

Two: Although hugs and other simple gestures we do offer, please remember that we're squishy people and Tamaki bruises easily. Please try not to be too physical and always ask before getting hugs and etc. That being said, please do not hit or harm our Host Club members or others attending the event. (An instance has happened in the past where a young lady has intentionally hit our Tamaki.) If there is any violence, we will ask for it to stop, ask you to leave, or get con secruity to escort you out.

Three: Please be respectful to other attendees, Ouran Host Club members, and the con staff. You are all considered lovely princesses and princes in our minds and hearts, so lets act like so to one another. No hurtful words or such to others please.

Four: We will offer a table for you to set aside your things so you don't have to have it cluttered in the room, around your feet, and can move about freely. That being said, San-Japan and the Ouran Members are not responsible for stolen or lost items. If you happen to find an item left behind in the event area, please let an Ouran Member know and we'll take it to lost and found ASAP.

Five: We're all princesses and princes so please, lets keep things tidy for the next hosting session. We're not asking for you to clean up the whole room, just take your belongings and throw away whatever trash you may have.

Six: Although we love to have pictures taken with all of you and give hugs, handshakes, or whatever after your hosting session is over, we ask that you do so quickly. We only have a few minutes to get ready for our next hosting session.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO OURAN EVENT CAST
I'll send a mass text later, but I didn't want to send it this early in the morning.

-I'm thinking of getting business cards for our event. Not certain yet, but if anyone has any suggestions on business card topic, let me know.
-Need to know when if a good time/day for everyone to do a thrift/store shopping day for materials/clothing for our Steampunk attire. We can even use my supplies at my home to alter/sew/hotglue/etc a few things we find. We'll make a whole day out of it.

We're are possibly open to accept a Nekozawa for our event.

Our Event is Possibly Looking for a Nekozawa

Please Read Below for More Details

We haven't had a Nekozawa for a few years now and we're looking for a dedicated person to be a part of our group for this event. I can supply the wig, cape, and puppet for this cosplay, but we also need the person, who's interested in being our Nekozawa, to assist with the event prior to event time and date. The following is required.

    1. Must be willing to attend at least one or two of our conference meetings for this event. (We talk/plan/write/etc for a long while at these, so be prepared.) Most of our meetings are based in San Antonio. Please bring ideas, imput you've heard from attendees in the past, and any information you want to share relating to the event. We're always looking to change up things each year a bit or tweak things a little.

    2. Keep updated with us constantly concerning various things through SJ forums, e-mail, and especially phone texts. (I send out a lot of information through texts.) Also, to imput any ideas you have for the event and etc.

    3. Because we do themes every year, we may expect you to add a bit to your own cosplay. We usually assist each other with this as much as we can so we're not burning a hole through our pockets. An example of this is when we did the waiter theme, everyone just paid for the materials that their vests and aprons cost and I made the vests and aprons so we would all match. (That cost everyone $10-15 in materials.) We're doing Steampunk theme this year, so you may have to add a little Steampunk inspired pieces to your cosplay. Again, I'll supply you with the wig, cloak, and puppet but just add a touch of steampunk accessories to your cosplay. It doesn't have to be handmade, but just maybe a brown vest from the thrift store, and other little things that won't leave your wallet empty. (Nekozawa is in a cloak most of the time, so he's not as required to have much Steampunk themes to his outfit as much as the Host Club members are.)

    4. The Friday and Saturday of the convention (our event is on the Sunday of), we do a pre-signup for the Ouran event at our own table in the Artist Alley. We plan alternate turns at the table whenever we have a free moment at the convention so we at least have one person there at the table all through Friday and Saturday during the day. (When the Artist alley opens around to the time when it closes.) You may have to offer up your time during the convention to tend to the table and explain the event to con goers/sign them up for the event. After everyone gets a set schedule for themselves for the convention, we'll work out confirmed shifts for us all.

    5. We usually have a decent set-up and break down time before and after our event, we ask that we have you come in at the start of the set-up time and stay until the end of the break down time. You'll be decorating the room with us and breaking down as well. We also may have to move tables, pitchers of water, trays, and chairs as well.

    6. Please be in character to your fullest at the convention's event. We also ask if there is any drama to leave it at the door. If any issue pops up, pull myself (Hikaru) or Kendall (Kyoya) aside for a quick minute. The con attendees are here to see the Host Club and we must make them feel welcomed as much as we can.

That's pretty much the requirements. I apologize if this seems like a lot, but each member of the event puts a lot effort, planning, time, and money into this event. Why do we do it year after year? We love putting such a large and amazing event together for all of the fans of the Host Club. Sometimes, the things people tell us about how much they loved event makes us cry in joy. It makes us happy that we give such a lovely experience.

Hey this post comes to you from both Permafrost and MeWindycharms!

Permafrost has been consumed these last couple weeks with how we are going to do our Steampunk attire. How are we going to do this thing? A couple ideas she has are:
-A survey of common Steampunk tropes/archetypes/characters/etc. For example, the twins would be airship pirates/sky pirates, Tamaki woud be a straight up victorian gentleman (top hat, tails, etc. AS IS APPROPRIATE), Kyouya would be a variation on the gentlemen with perhaps a litle more technological emphasis, Hunny could be a scientist with Mori as his automaton man, or someone could be based on adventurer that wears one of those doofy tan hats like the dad in Tarzan or be a general with lots of medals, etc.
-Skewing heavily towards a particular type of character (probably sky pirate)
-Costumes with the matching color combination of the pale blue of the Ouran coats to make it recognizable as OHSHC (Windy's least favorite tbh)
-Or just have some color coordination

We would prefer not to go the route of glue some gears on it and call it Steampunk, but we are a little lost on how to make it recognizably steampunk without breaking the bank. Here are some thoughts we had about making our theme recognizably Steampunk:
-Permafrost happens to own one of these sorts of guns which can be spray painted/modified to look Steampunk.

-Waistcoats! After looking at a ton of pictures we really feel like adding a vest is pretty awesome. Double breasted, single breasted (?), plus pocket watch chain (without expensive pocket watch attached), metallic buttons, etc. seems to really add something.
-Permafrost has already started to look at decoration possibility but if anyone has one of these globes that we could borrow for an event please let us know.

It need not have an ornate stand.

We'd love to hear about your ideas for the theme and what direction you're thinking of taking your costume. We're hoping to have a post up within the next month or so containing all the things around our house we feel could be vaguely Steampunk (think a couple years back to the post with all our flower center pieces a couple years back).

This is why we're doing our meeting day/gathering day as I have texted everyone. To go through ideas before we set out on hunting for our supplies.

IDK we just feel like we should have a plan before we meet otherwise we feel it will be an even longer day. We feel like if people know ahead of time they'll be able to start piecing their outfit together ahead of time we can give feed back and provide pieces for each other. The day we meet is vital and it will help if we have an idea ahead of time.

I (Windy) am going to start a fb group for the Ouran Event because that worked really nicely for the Hetalia event. I know you don't like facebook, but it's probably the best way to keep in touch with everyone. All in all I want the day we meet to be a productive one.

Thanks doll! I'm super nervous about the Steampunk theme, but I know our group will work hard!

Lol I feel like there should've been some Tamaki sparkle after that line.

I really like the facebook group idea! For me I'll sometimes search for clothing on ebay, so a facebook group would be a nice way to share ideas and such.

    Change in Cast

There has been a slight change in cast involving the twins. Rassolin, sadly won't be our Kaoru this year like she was last year. We do have Ducky, yet another Periwinkle sister, who has happily stepped up to be Kaoru.

    Update on Ouran Cast
We do have a Kaoru, but it will not be Ducky. (Ducky has promised to be an understudy though.) The name will be announced soon.
